Cakes For Richmond VA Community Events
The Children's Museum of Richmond has an annual fundraiser called
the Gingerbread Festival. In 2007 I won second prize in the
gingerbread house competition, and this is my first-prize winning
entry for 2008. It's called the "Edgar Allan Dough" house, and has a
lot of references to Poe's works.
Richmond Ballet 25th Anniversary Nutcracker Cake
The Richmond Ballet celebrated it's 25th anniversary at the opening of the Nutcracker in
December 2008. I contributed a display cake to the sweets gallery that was awarded a prize for
design. Each tier represents a different part of the ballet, going from bottom to top.
Edgar Allan Poe's 200th birthday was on January 19th, 2009. I was
asked to do the cake for the celebration after the staff at the Poe
Museum saw my gingerbread house (below). It was designed to look
like the poster commemorating Poe's anniversary, and included 200
chocolate candles and a fondant raven standing over the cake.
I contributed three
present-decorated cakes to
the Chesterfield County
Christmas Mother fundraiser
for 2009. The auction was
able to raise $31,000 for the
2009 fund, and I was happy
to be a part of the event.
For the 2009 holiday display at
Richmond City hall, I was asked to
make a replica of the Science
Museum of Virginia out of
gingerbread. It was on display through
the month of December
I donated a
gingerbread house
for the Children's
Museum
Gingerbread
Festival for
2009...The theme
this year was "New
Year's Eve At The
Cotton Candy Club."
I donated a cake to the
Because We Are Sisters
Organization. It was designed
to commemorate the Pepsi
Refresh Grant that they
received that would help
purchase supplies for needy
mothers and children.

The 2011 Gingerbread house for the Children's Museum
was a tacky candy tour theme, since gingerbread men
would decorate with candy, not lights, if they had houses.
